Toronto - The Argos Foundation - Stop the Violence and its partners announced details of the BMX Bike Park Youth Engagement Project at this year's Grey Cup Festival. Free to the public and open all day, the BMX Bike Park will be housed at the Via Rail Bremner Street Festival during Grey Cup week from November 22 to the 25 and will feature 60 ramps painted by local youth with inspiring murals. This project is made possible through the generosity of co-presenting sponsors the Toronto Police Association & Amalgamated Transit Union Local 113 and community partners Toronto Crime Stoppers, the City of Toronto Parks, Forestry and Recreation and bike park donor Michael Heaton. The film draws on the experiences of a leading author on the subject - TRISTAN MANCO (author of street logos, stencil graffiti & Brazil graffiti) and also a Bristol street artist -- SUMS. Both offer their own personal experience of public spaces and add to the films themes of consciousness to our surroundings and logos & signs as communication.

The video shows officers from Avon and Somerset Constabulary involved in an pre-planned operation follow of a suspected drug dealer. The vehicle failed to stop for the unmarked police car in Bristol, UK. After a short pursuit the suspected drug dealer abandoned his vehicle before being arrested by armed officers. He was later charged for being in possession of class A drugs with intent to supply. The drugs recovered by Avon and Somerset Constabulary had a street value of more than £40000.

Inspector Bryce Evans is one of the officers in charge of 14 Division Toronto Police Service. He has been very supportive of the efforts of the Argos Foundation Stop the Violence in their efforts to build bridges between youth and the police. In this video he speaks to Kalmplex, a local graffiti artist. Kalmplex is standing in front of a corner piece of the BMX Bike park that the Argos Foundation Stop the Violence are supporting in conjunction with Toronto Crime Stoppers and the City of Toronto Parks Forestry and Recreation Department. Kalmplex painted a mural on this piece with positive messaging at the Style in Progress graffiti event. Inspector Evans is very supportive of graffiti artists like Kalmplex, who are intent on building community together. This video shows the start of a dialogue between Kalmplex and Inspector Evans. Graffiti events such as Style in Progress are legal as long as the permission of the property owner is obtained. Vandalism graffiti is a concern, as there is a small percentage of the graffiti community in Toronto who are intent on vandalism, regardless of any process that is implemented by anyone. A planned strategy to police events in conjunction with the event organizers is recommended. Community CAVE (www.communitycave.com ) are in the process of documenting best practices in this regard. This BMX bike park will be part of the 2007 Grey Cup celebrations in Toronto during the month of November, 2007.

NEXT STOP BRISTOL -. Urban Artwork - Bristol - Remo, Kid Zoom and Vermin come together to paint a Huge wall in Stokes Croft Bristol. Oct - 25 - 09 - Kid Zoom, Vermin ( Dale vn Marshal ) and yours truly Remo (Camerota) came Together to paint a wall in Bristol the last 2 days. It was an awesome time - meeting respected artists from around the globe here in the graffiti capitol of the world - Bristol. It is wonderful to be invited to paint by a community that respects graffiti as an art form. Bristol has a history of Graffiti and spawning talented young artists. It has gotton to the point in Bristol that the Police wont stop anybody from painting on walls here as they dont know if the value of the wall or building will go up as a consequence of a valued painter is painting there. So in fact - they just leave the kids to paint. Our wall was arranged by Chris Chalkley - from Peoples Republic of Stokes Croft - PRSC. Chris constantly puts his reputation on the line by inviting artists to paint in the city and taking responsibility for it all. He also donates paint and brushes to the cause. Chris you are doing a fine job. So anyway - file through the photos - check out the video. Enjoy, we did.
